George Mason hosts UMass for the final series of the regular season this weekend. Mason holds a 3-1 all-time record against the Minutemen, traveling to UMass last year and winning the first two games of the series.
The Patriots enter the weekend tied with VCU for the seventh and final spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Mason holds the tiebreaker against Davidson, GW, VCU and La Salle via series wins. This past weekend Mason won the final two games of the three game series at La Salle as John Williams pitched seven innings and Tyler Zombro threw eight in the victories.
Luke Willis enters the weekend on a 26-game hit streak, one shy of tying Brig Tison's school record of 27. Brandon Gum continues to chase Willis' tail as he has extended his hit streak to 25 games. Kent Blackstone also remains one triple away from setting a new single-season record in that category. He currently has eight, which is tied with three others in the Mason record book.
UMass starts Thursday one game behind Mason and VCU in the conference standings with a 10-11 Atlantic 10 record. As a team the Minutemen are batting .239 and sport an ERA of 5.96.
*Prior to Saturday's game coach Brown and his staff will honor this year's seven graduating seniors: Riley Coverdale, Taylor Hunt, Jake Kalish, Andrew Sable, Ray Toto, John Williams and Luke Willis.*
