The George Mason baseball team will hit the road for the fourth consecutive weekend when it travels to Thomasville, NC on Friday for a three-game series against Marshall. This is the second trip that Mason will be making to North Carolina this season.
Mason (3-5) won both of its games in Lexington, SC last weekend by the scores of 12-4 and 13-3 over Delaware and Canisius, respectively. Tyler Zombro and John Williams each earned victories on the mound. Freshmen Tyler Nelin (.571) and Michael Smith (.455) pace the lineup in batting average while Nelin is also tied for the team lead with Kent Blackstone by putting up two homeruns and eight RBI. The Patriots have yet to play a home game this season.
Marshall enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-7. Josh King and Corey Bird are leading the way on offense with one homerun and nine RBI and as a team the Herd is batting .300. Marshall has six players that have stolen at least two bases this season. The two teams have met twice previously, each winning once. Marshall has also yet to play a home game.
The series kicks off on Saturday, March 7 with a 4 p.m. game. The weekend wraps up on Sunday, March 8 with a double header scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Live audio for each game will be available at GoMason.com.
