FAIRFAX, Va. – Jake Kalish went 4-4 at the plate with three RBI and
Tyler Zombro pitched seven innings in George Mason baseball's (10-14, 2-4) 6-2 win over Saint Joseph's (9-12, 3-2) on Sunday.
Zombro improved to 3-1 with the Sunday start, allowing six hits and striking out five Hawks in the 6-2 victory.
Joe Williams closed out the game by pitching the final two innings, striking out all three batters in the top of the ninth looking.
Saint Joseph's took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a passed ball but would relinquish the lead in the bottom of the second.
Kent Blackstone and
Brady Acker began with back-to-back walks to set up Kalish's three-run homerun to right field for the 3-1 lead, his first of the season.
The Hawks put up one more run in the top of the third on a John Brue double but the Patriots answered once again in the bottom frame with their final three runs.
Michael Smith opened with a bunt single and
Brandon Gum singled to right field, both coming around to score on Blackstone's sixth triple of the season. A sacrifice fly from Acker scored Blackstone, the final run of the game.
Kalish ended the game with four hits in four at bats while
Luke Willis went 3-5 and stole his league-leading 16th base of the season.
Mason concludes the six-game homestand on Tuesday vs. Georgetown at 3:00 p.m. in the Game of the Week.
