The Patriots continue conference play by hosting their first Atlantic 10 series of the season this weekend. Saint Joseph's plays three games at Spuhler Field beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
Both teams met for the first time last season where each club won two and lost two in the four games played against each other. Mason is hosting Saint Joseph's for the second consecutive season. The Hawks won two of three in Fairfax last year. The two teams met again in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament where Mason won 5-4 by scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Brandon Gum has reached base in all 19 games he has played this season. Kent Blackstone has reached in 18 straight games and Trevor Kelly has gotten aboard in 17 straight. Michael Smith now leads the team with a batting average of .372 after recording three hits in each of the last three games. Luke Willis has scored 24 runs, the most in the conference.
Saint Joseph's split games with George Washington last weekend and most recently fell to Penn 4-2 on Tuesday. The Hawks are led John Brue who has totaled six homeruns and 17 RBI this season. RHP Pat Vanderslice comes in with 23 strikeouts to only five walks in 27 innings pitched and an ERA of 1.33.
