The Patriots begins Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend when they travel to Richmond, Va. for three games against the Richmond Spiders, beginning on Saturday, March 21. A doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the weekend will conclude on Sunday at noon.
Mason defeated James Madison its last time out on Wednesday, using five different pitchers to pick up the victory. Brandon Gum and Trevor Kelly each extended their hit streaks to 14 and 12 games, respectively, and are now respectively batting .364 and .316 on the year. Kent Blackstone picked up two more RBI for his team-leading 17, which is fourth in the conference. Ray Toto also hit his first homerun of the season.
The Spiders split a midweek two-game set with Minnesota, dropping the first and winning the second to keep their record even at 7-7. Richmond ranks in the top-five in both batting and pitching in the conference as its gets set to open conference play as well. The Spiders have six players with at least two homeruns and five with at least 10 RBI. Michael Morman heads both categories with three homeruns and 15 RBI.
