George Mason track and field men's team claimed first place Patriot Games Saturday at the Field House with a commanding 237 points, over 100 points higher than second place, Howard. The women's team claimed second place with 144.5 points, behind Navy which finished with 184.50 points.
The men took 18 podium finishes led by five first place finishes. Sophomore Bernard Freeman took the top spot in the 200m dash with a time of 22.02 as Mason took four of the top 10 spots, with junior DaQuan Smalls finishing third (22.39). Smalls also finished fifth (7.01) in the 60m dash, setting a personal record while classmate Angel Coburn took the top spot in the men's 500m with a time of 1:04.81, also a personal best. Sophomore Jordan May finished second in the 500m with a mark of 1:05.57. Fellow sophomores Austin Savage (1:56.21) and Steven Flynn (8:24.33) took first place in the 800m and 3000m runs respectively. Senior Michael Conway (14:48.74) came in first in the 5000m followed by freshman Grayson Morgan (15.05.65) in third. Freshman Xavier King Jr. (49.03) and Bernard Freeman (49.53) finished second and third respectively in the 400m while Trent Lancaster (2:34.18) finished third in the 1000m and Teddy Murphy (8.30) took the same spot in the 60m hurdles.
Freshman John Seals finished second in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.04m while junior Byron Sintim (7.02m) finished second in the long jump. The Patriots took four of the top 10 spots in the pole vault led by Sean Daugherty (4.75m) finishing second followed by Logan Besougloff (4.60m) in third.
The women tallied 11 podium finished led by freshmen Taylor and Sommer Sharpe as well as seniors Aneesha Scott and Bethany Sacthleben and junior Lindsay Horton, who each took first place in their respective events. Taylor Sharpe was one of six Patriots to finish in the top 10 in the 200m dash with a time of 25.06. Seniors Jasmine Robinson (25.08) and Shavon Briscoe (25.23) finished second and third respectively. Taylor Sharpe also took second in the 400m dash (55.99) while Sophomore Caela Williams came in third (57.21)
Sommer Sharpe took first place in the 500m dash (1:19.16) while senior Aneesha Scott finished atop the podium in the 60m dash with a time of 7.68.
Bethany Sachtleben continued her strong Mason career with a first place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 16:32.54. The Patriots also took second in the women's distance medley where the team of Suzanne Abribat, Raquel Fossett, Heather Selheimer and Siobhan Klie finished with a time of 13:03.01.
Things went well for Mason in the field events as well, with Patriots claiming five of the top 10 spots in pole vault led by Lindsay Horton who finished first with a height of 3.70m followed by Megann Kaiser (3.55m) in second. Sophomore Junei Mosley set a personal best with a mark of 11.53m as she finished third in the triple jump.
