ST. LOUIS, MO – Four Patriots were selected for Atlantic 10 All-Conference postseason honors as announced by the A-10 on Tuesday. Nominations and votes were cast by the coaches of each respective school.
Redshirt Senior Chris Cook earned first team All-Conference honors at second base, redshirt senior Anthony Montefusco and senior Jared Gaynor earned second team All-Conference honors as starting pitchers and freshman Tyler Zombro was one of twelve to be named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.
Cook completed his final year of eligibility this season after missing all of 2013 due to injury. The Riva, Md. native started all 50 regular season games for the Patriots, ending his season with a batting average of .309 while leading the team with four homeruns and added 25 RBI. His .479 on-base percentage ranked second in the Atlantic 10 conference and a slugging percentage of .474 ranked 15th in the A-10. Cook set a new single-season program after being hit by 29 pitches this season, breaking his own record of 26. He is also the all-time program leader and active NCAA Division 1 leader with 94 hit-by-pitches.
After earning CAA Rookie of the Year his freshman season and first team All-CAA honors in 2013, Montefusco earned second team All-Conference honors this season in the programs first year as a member of the Atlantic 10. The redshirt senior led the conference with 78 strikeouts and ranked third with an ERA of 2.15.
Gaynor joined Montefusco on the All-Conference second team after leading the conference with an ERA of 1.72 and pitched a total of 99.2 innings. The lefty pitched three complete games this season, two of them for shutouts. Montefusco and Gaynor each recorded eight wins this season, tied for third in the Atlantic 10.
Zombro ended his first year as a Patriot as a member of the conference All-Rookie team. The Staunton, Va. native ended his season with a team-high 17 appearances, posting an ERA of 2.14 with a record of 5-2 along with four saves.
Cook and redshirt junior Taylor Hunt were also selected as members of the conference All-Academic team. To qualify, players must have averaged a grade point average of 3.0 or above for their entire academic career.
