George Mason concludes the regular season with its first ever series against the Dayton Flyers in Dayton Ohio. Both teams come into play currently in position for a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament; the Patriots are tied for third with VCU at a 14-8 conference record while Dayton holds the fifth spot at 13-11.
Mason hosted first place Saint Joseph's last weekend, falling in the first two contests before coming away with a 2-1 victory in the second half of a doubleheader on Sunday. Brandon Gum continues to lead the team in batting average at .329 and Blaise Fernandez still holds the RBI lead with 32. All nine regular starters for the Patriots have at least 14 RBI this season while four have started every game in 2014 (Chris Cook, Fernandez, Tucker Tobin, Luke Willis).
A team ERA of 3.34 continues to lead the Atlantic 10 conference and weekend starters Anthony Montefusco, Jared Gaynor and John Williams have a combined ERA of just over 2.00. Tyler Zombro earned his fourth save of the season in the victory over the Hawks on Sunday and is third on the team in ERA with a 2.25 in a team-high 16 appearances.
The Flyers have won their last three games, two over conference opponent La Salle and their final non-conference game on Tuesday at Akron. Dayton has three players batting at least .345, led by Robby Sunderman who leads the team with a .369 batting average and the Atlantic 10 with 72 hits and 20 stolen bases. Alex Harris is batting .350 and leads the conference with an on-base percentage of .486.
Dayton as a team leads the conference with 99 doubles this season but also boasts an Atlantic 10-high 340 strikeouts at the plate. Pitchers have picked off a conference-high 12 batters while holding a team ERA of 5.88, second last in the A-10.
