George Mason travels out of the state of Virginia for a scheduled baseball game for the first time in over a month when the Patriots head to Kingston, RI for a weekend series with the Rhode Island Rams. The last time Mason played a game out of state was against then no. 16 North Carolina on Tuesday, March 11. The scheduled contest between the Patriots and the Georgetown Hoyas on Tuesday, April 15 in Bethesda, Md. was postponed due to rain.
The Patriots come off a weekend series win over conference opponent St. Bonaventure, the first ever meeting between the two school. The Patriots opened the series with an 8-3 victory, scoring six runs in the eighth inning for the win. The Bonnies took the middle game 8-6 in 11 innings before Mason wrapped it up with a 6-1 win on Sunday.
Blaise Fernandez, Brandon Gum, Tucker Tobin and Luke Willis each had three RBI in the series vs. St Bonaventure. Fernandez and Willis are currently tied for the team lead with 23 on the season. Tyler Zombro recorded his third victory of the season along with his third save of the season on the weekend.
Rhode Island enters the weekend on a five game losing streak, dropping three games to Dayton sandwiched by losses to Bryany and Stony Brook. The Rams are currently for tied for last place in the Atlantic 10 with a 2-8 conference record
