FAIRFAX--Mandissa Marshall and Lindsay Horton took the top two places in the Women's Pole vault, respectively, in to highlight a very successful outing at Saturday's Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason.
Marshall took the top spot with a final height of 4.00 meters in the first indoor meet of the season, which currently places her eighth in the nation on the latest NCAA indoor list. Horton finished with a height of 3.60 meters to claim second place and set a new PR.
Haley Hale also set a new PR in weight throwing with a distance of 14.55 meters to secure the third overall spot in women's weight throwing while, on the men's side, Jason Wellington came in at fourth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 14.99.
Mason put out numerous strong performances on the track as well, highlighted by Dianna Barron's third place finish in the 500m Dash with a time of 1:14.89. Barron, accompanied by Dominique Grahm, Jasmine Robinson and Kiya Day, returned to help the women's 4x400 relay earn third overall in a time of 3:48.99. That time, adjusted for the flat track, converts to the 14th best time nationally in the new year.
For the men, senior All-American Adrian Vaughn set a new personal record with a time of 6.91 in the men's 60m dash placing him in fifth overall, while freshman Bernard Freeman and Jordan May started off their careers with the Patriots on the right foot. Freeman took third place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.27 and May finished third in the 500m dash with a time of 1:06.11. May and Vaughn further coupled with DaQuan Smalls and Taylor Sykes to throw down an impressive time of 3:17.05 in the meet-ending 4x400m relay, currently placing them in the 13th slot nationally.
Director of Men's and Women's T&F, Andrew Gerard commented "This meet always serves as a great meet for us to get going and this year was no exception. Our track folks trained hard this fall, and this meet gives them the first opportunity to reap the benefits of that. We have a long way to go, but this was a good return to the track, runways and throwing circles. We have a lot more in store!"
The team returns to action on Friday, January 15th, at the Great Dane Invitational, hosted by the University at Albany at the Armory in NYC.
