The Patriots take to the diamond one last time in CAA action this weekend, traveling to face Old Dominion in Norfolk. It will be the final CAA series for both squads, as the Patriots move to the A-10 next season and the Monarchs head to C-USA.
Saturday's game will be televised live by Cox Communications, airing on Cox 11 in Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia and Roanoke. It will also re-air on Sunday, May 5th at 7 p.m.
The Patriots have won two of their last three games, including a come-from-behind 6-5 triumph over George Washington on Tuesday. Junior Blaise Fernandez is the only Mason player to appear in all 47 games this season and currently leads the team hitting .344 with 64 hits, 17 doubles and 18 multi-hit games. Classmate Josh Leemhuis has had the hot bat as of late, hitting .408 (29-71) in the month of April with nine doubles, a triple, home run and 18RBI's, leading the team in each of those categories.
Pitchers Jared Gaynor and Anthony Montefusco will be making their 12th and 11th starts, respectively, this weekend. Montefusco will look to have another strong outing after his performance a week ago at W&M when he earned the win after 8.0 innings of work, allowing just one unearned run on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
ODU enters the weekend with an overall record of 24-21 and 13-11 in the CAA. The Monarchs have won three straight, taking two over Delaware last weekend before defeating VMI on Tuesday.
P.J. Higgins is hitting a team-best .390, while Ben Verlander leads the team with 59 hits, 10 home runs and 37 runs scored, and Josh Eldridge has driven in a team-leading 41 runs.
Friday starter Ali Dean (2-3) will make his 12th start of the season, and has a team-leading 2.94 ERA. Saturday starter Andy Roberts (3-3) will take to the mound for his 11th start and follows right behind Dean with a 3.10 ERA.
