BOSTON, Mass. - A first-place finish by the George Mason
women's track & field 4x400m relay highlighted the day as the women wrapped
up competition at the ECAC Indoor Championships, while the men also finished
action at the IC4A Indoor Championships.
The women's 4x400 relay of senior Cierra McGee, sophomore
Daianna Barron, junior Taylor Wheaton and sophomore Dominique Graham crossed
the line in 3:39.87, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of second-place UMES
while recording a season-best time.
Another strong finish came from McGee in the 400m dash, as
she finished second with a season-best time of 54.21. Barron placed ninth in
the same event with a time of 56.26.
Also competing on the final day was the distance medley
relay of freshman Heather Selheimer and Christen Roberts, and seniors Monique
McKenzie and and Nao Ma, finishing 10th with a season-best time of 11:57.60.
Senior Grace Mavugara also took part in the triple jump but did not place after
fouling out.
For the men, seniors Dwight Webley and Lavell Handy had the
best showing at the IC4A Indoor Championships, placing fourth in their respective events. Webley posted a
distance of 15.29m in the triple jump, while Handy ran a time of 8.04 in the
60m hurdles finals after recording a time of 8.11 in the semifinals.
The distance medley relay of sophomore Wil McReynolds, freshman
Anthony Williams and David Klimek, and senior Robert Reynolds recorded a
season-best time of 9:54.58 to finish sixth in the event, while junior Cody
Raphael placed fifth in the 800m with a season-best time of 1:51.17 and freshman
Alex Levine took seventh in the 1000m run, crossing the line in 2:28.11.
Also competing for Mason was junior John Holt, who recorded
a season-best time of 14:37.81 in the 5000m run en route to finishing 18th.
At another meet this weekend, senior Parker Boudreau looked
to improve his time in the one mile run but came up just short of his
season-best time after finishing 13th with a time of 4:04.81 at the
Columbia Last Chance Meet.
The Patriots return to action next weekend, with qualifying
individuals traveling to Boise for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
