Notes: The Patriots are currently 4-3 this season and coming
off a successful weekend at the Baseball on the Beach Tourney in Myrtle Beach.
Mason started the tournament with an 8-5 loss to N.C. State but rebounded with
consecutive wins over Iowa (12-3), Virginia Tech (7-1) and West Virginia (1-0).
For his efforts at the tourney, senior third
baseman Brig Tison was named the CAA Player of the Week. He went
9-for-18 (.500) at the plate with five RBI's and four runs scored, in addition
to three stolen bases. Tison currently leads the Patriots in batting average
(.448), on base percentage (.500), runs scored (6), hits (13), doubles (2),
walks (3) and stolen bases (4).
On the mound the Patriots own a 2.55 ERA, giving up 21 runs (17 earned)
while boasting a 3:1 strikeout-walk ratio. Montefusco (1-0) will get the start
on Friday, followed by Pfaeffle (1-0) and Johnson (0-2). Montefusco has allowed
just two runs in 13.0 innings of work, boasting a 1.38 ERA and a team-high 13
strikeouts. Pfaeffle has a team-low 0.75 ERA, giving up two runs (one earned)
while striking out eight in 12.0 innings of work. Johnson (0-2) has a 7.20 ERA
with 10 runs scored (eight earned) in 10.0 innings.
After winning its first two games of the season, Bryant is currently on a
four-game losing streak, most recently being swept by Florida Gulf Coast (5-4,
8-1, 5-1) last weekend.
Reigning Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week Peter Kelish (1-0) will
throw for the Bulldogs on Friday. In his last game against Florida Gulf Coast
he limited the Eagles to three runs on six hits over six innings but didn't
earn a decision. For the season he has thrown 12 innings in two starts, allowing
four runs (two earned), 10 hits and six walks with 12 strikeouts. In two starts
Joseph Michaud (1-1) has allowed seven runs (three earned) on 11 hits over 10.2
innings, while Craig Schlitter (0-1) has appeared in two games with one start
for the Bulldogs, giving up three runs and five hits while striking out six in
5.1 innings of work.
Offensively, junior infielder Dan Muscatello leads Bryant with a .333
batting average, while junior catcher Mike Delponte has driven in a team-high
three runs. As a team the Bulldogs are hitting just .175 and have only three
extra-base hits in their first six contests (three doubles).
