This year marks the 30th anniversary of one of the best
men's soccer teams in the history of George Mason University. The 1982 team
posted an amazing 19-2 record, winning its first 18 games in a row including a
famous win at the University of Virginia. Mason advanced to the quarterfinals
of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament, losing to eventual national runner-up Duke
2-0. The Patriots were ranked as high as sixth in the nation that season - the
best ranking in program history.
The men's soccer program and George Mason Athletics will
honor the 1982 program and all of its
accomplishments on Saturday, October 20 before the team takes to the
pitch in its final home game of the season versus James Madison University at
7:00 p.m. The Mason community, fans and former players are encouraged to come
to George Mason Stadium to honor the team and take part in the celebration.
More details will be available as the game approaches.
Additionally, the game will be senior day for the current
players on the squad, and three former players, Mark Pulisic, Ken Bernstein and
Irad Young will be honored at halftime as they enter the Mason Men's Soccer
Hall of Fame.
Throughout the fall, GoMason.com has recapped the 1982
