RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Tiana Kallenberger and freshman Liz
Hodges helped lead the George Mason women's soccer team to a 3-0 week, and were
honored by the Colonial Athletic Association Monday afternoon by earning Player
of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively.
A native of Irvine, Calif., Kallenberger contributed two
goals and one assist over the week, which included a 3-2 victory over
regionally-ranked Penn. In handing Penn its first loss of the season,
Kallenberger scored a goal to put Mason up 2-0 and assisted on the game-winner
in the 47th minute.
Having started all eight games this season, Kallenberger
leads the Patriots with four goals and nine points.
"Tiana is a proven game changer," noted head coach Diane
Drake. "Her work rate is relentless and positive things happen around her. She
is very deserving of this honor."
Hodges, who hails from Lorton, Va., scored her first two
collegiate career goals this week, both in game-winning fashion. On Tuesday,
Hodges notched the game-winner over Saint Francis (Pa.) in the 67th
minute off an assist by Zania Barnum. The freshman also came up strong against
Howard, scoring the first goal of the match in the 77th minute as
Mason blanked the Bison, 2-0.
"Liz is a fantastic newcomer with the purest finishing
skills I have ever coached," Drake commented. "Her vision on the field is top notch.
I expect her to get even better as the season progresses."
Mason hits the road for the next three matchups and opens
conference play this weekend traveling to Old Dominion and William & Mary
on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Match times are slated for 7 p.m. Friday
night and 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
