The George Mason baseball team was unable to get in
the win column on Sunday afternoon as the Patriots dropped their third-straight
game at Delaware as the Patriots lost in extra innings for the second time in
the series, falling to the Blue Hens, 5-4 in 10 innings.
The Patriots took a 4-2 lead into the eighth but the
Blue Hens scored twice then added the winning run in the tenth to complete the
sweep of Mason. The Patriots fell behind 2-0 as Delaware scored an unearned run
in the first and an earned run in the third. The first run came when DJ Long
singled, went to third on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a Steve Ulaky
sacrifice fly. In the third, Jimmy Yezzo doubled and scored on a Dave Anderson
single.

double to center. Mason took the lead in the fifth when Allen doubled, took
third on a Haas single and scored on a double steal. The Patriots made it 4-2

got to him in the eighth as Ulaky reached on a two-out fielder's choice, prompting
another pitching change. Brandon Kuter
came on and the first batter he faced
was Aaron Mascoe, who singled. Hank Yates followed with a single to score Ulaky
and Alex Mottle added a base hit to bring home Mascoe with the tying run,
In the tenth, Ulaky doubled to lead off the inning
and went to third on wild pitch. Kuter intentionally walked Mascoe and Yates to
set up a force play at home but Mottle drew a four-pitch walk to end the
contest at 5-4.
Mason stranded runners in seven of the 10 innings
and left 35 on base in the three-game series. Fernandez, Haas and Schafferman
each had two hits for the Patriots who will look to snap their five-game
