ESPN's Andy Katz Names Pearson His Player of the Week
FAIRFAX, Va. - Junior Ryan Pearson posted a pair of double-doubles last week in
leading the George Mason men's basketball team to two conference victories, and
the Colonial Athletic Association has recognized his efforts by selecting the
forward as its Co-Player of the Week. Pearson previously won the award three
weeks ago.
Pearson averaged 18.5 points
and 11.5 rebounds per game last week, as he tallied his third and fourth
double-doubles of the season in home victories over Hofstra and Old Dominion.
Against the Pride, Pearson poured in 19 points and a season-high 12 rebounds,
while on Saturday he was Mason's leading scorer and rebounder. The Far
Rockaway, N.Y., native contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds in the victory
over the Monarchs. In each game, Pearson was 7-of-13 from the field (53.8
percent).
The award comes as the
Patriots have taken a share of first place in the conference standings and won
nine straight games, their longest winning streak in 12 seasons. Pearson
currently ranks seventh in field goal percentage (52.9 percent) 11th
in scoring (14.4 ppg) and 12th in rebounding (6.2 rpg) among CAA
players.
Pearson's selection marks the
third player of the week award for Mason this season, as senior Cam Long earned
the honor two weeks ago. Sharing the award with Pearson was Trevor Deloach of
UNC Wilmington.
The Patriots return to action
on Tuesday night with a road contest against Deloach and the Seahawks. Tip time
is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised live on MASN.
