Lavell
Handy had a pair of top five finishes and
Mandissa Marshall
had a second-place finish while
nine individual Patriots and one relay team qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championships at the New Balance
Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory.
Handy
was fifth in the championship 60-meter hurdles
with a time of 8.00 while finishing second in
the college long jump with a leap of 7.50 meters. Marshall, meanwhile, cleared
4.00 meters in the college pole vault. Both had already qualified for the
IC4A/ECAC meets in those events.
There
were several other Patriots who posted qualifying marks while competing in
championship-level events. Rachaunn Ruffin
ran the 60-meters with an IC4A
qualifying time of 6.96. Ja-Vell Bullard
and Nick Vaughn
ran the 400-meters
with times of 48.76 and 49.08, respectively. Finally, Robert Reynolds
recorded
a 2:28.03 time in the 1000-meters. On the women's side, Rochelle Sceats
posted
a time of 17:09.65 in the 5000-meters, the third-fastest time in school history. The women also got a strong performance from freshman Daianna Barron
who finished the
400-meters in 56.36.
Two men
qualified for the IC4A while running in college-level events. Travaughn
Baker-Johnson ran a 22.13 in the college 200-meter prelims finishing fourth and
qualifying for Saturday's final, and
Adrian Vaughn
competed in the college
400-meters, posting a time of 49.11. The final individual qualifier came on the women's
side as Crystal Clark met the ECAC standard in the 200-meters by just .01
seconds. She ran a 25.03 in the prelims of the event, finishing sixth and
qualifying for Saturday's final. Also qualifying was the women's 4X800 relay team of
Victoria Samyn
,
Samantha Fickel
,
Laura Sinclair
and
Kimmy Moss
.
Baker-Johnson
also had a seventh-place finish in the college 60-meters while
Kevin Wilson
finished seventh in the championship 500-meters. Wilson had already qualified
for the IC4A but his time on Friday was the best by a Patriot this season.
The meet
concludes on Saturday.
