WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Four George Mason women's soccer players were selected for All-Colonial Athletic Association honors Wednesday night on the eve of the Virginia 529 CAA Women's Soccer Championship. Junior forward Tiana Kallenberger and senior midfielder Zania Barnum were selected to the second team, while junior defender Mary Kate Lowry earned third team recognition and Paige Babel was named to the All-Rookie team.
Kallenberger leads the Patriots this season with a team-best 20 points on six goals and eight assists. The junior is currently tied for third in assists in the league and ranks 10th in shots (47) averaging 2.47 per contest. The Irvine, Calif., native scored the game-winning goal in Mason's 1-0 shutout over Hofstra and has recorded two assists in a match twice this season at Old Dominion and UNCW. This is Kallenberger's second All-CAA honor, as she earned third team accolades and was additionally named All-Rookie after her freshman campaign.
Barnum joined Kallenberger on the second team and has two assists this year against Saint Francis and James Madison. The Ellicott City, Md., native has found a spot in the Mason record book having appeared in over 70 matches during her four-year career.
One of only three players to start all 19 matches in 2011, Lowry picked up third team honors after helping Mason to six shutouts on the back line this season. The junior, who hails from Mechanicsburg, Pa., found the back of the net at Old Dominion and assisted Alyssa Andersen on Mason's first goal against Penn.
Making an immediate impact on the back line in her inaugural season, Babel received All-Rookie accolades having started in 16 of 18 matches this season. A part of Mason's six shutouts, the Springfield, Va. native has become a mainstay on the back line this season.
This marks the sixth consecutive season the Patriots have placed at least one player on the All-CAA squad.
William & Mary junior midfielder Mallory Schaffer was selected as the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Player of the Year in voting by the league's head coaches. Also receiving top women's soccer honors from the conference were VCU junior back Karol Sanchez as CAA Defensive Player of the Year and VCU freshman midfielder Cristin Granados as CAA Rookie of the Year. Receiving CAA Co-Coach of the Year accolades were William & Mary's John Daly and VCU's Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and Tim Sahaydak.
William & Mary placed a league-high three players on the All-CAA first team with Schaffer joined by junior midfielder Cortlyn Bristol and senior back Diana Weigel. Northeastern was represented by senior forward Veronica Napoli and senior back Kelly Matthews, while VCU had Sanchez and junior goalkeeper Kristin Carden on the squad.

Mason opens tournament play facing #6 Northeastern on Thursday, November 3 at 5 p.m. The 2011 CAA Championship will be held at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on the campus of William and Mary.
