Women's Basketball Releases Full 2010-11 Conference Schedule

Arlington, Va. - The George Mason women's basketball team continues to show signs of improvement through its rebuilding process under third-year head coach Jeri Porter, and the Patriots were predicted to finish 10th among the 12-team Colonial Athletic Association field, announced Tuesday as part of the CAA's basketball media day at the Champps Restaurant. The results are based on a poll of the league's head coaches.

Senior guard Brittany Poindexter was also recognized by the coaches as she earned Preseason All-CAA honorable mention. She is the first Mason player to receive preseason accolades since Lateisha Wade earned the same honor in 2007. Poindexter ranked 15th among conference players and led the Patriots in scoring last season after averaging 11.8 points per game.

The Patriots surpassed Towson and Northeastern in the preseason poll, as the Tigers and Huskies were picked 11th and 12th, respectively. James Madison was predicted to repeat as conference champions, followed by Old Dominion, Delaware, Hofstra, VCU, Drexel, William & Mary, UNC Wilmington and Georgia State.

Mason returns all five starters to a team which more than doubled its win total from the 2008-09 campaign, finishing 10-20. Along with Poindexter, sophomore guard/forward Amber Easter highlights the returnees after she earned All-Rookie honors with 11.1 points and a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game during her freshman campaign.

Following an exhibition on Monday, November 8 against Davis and Elkins, the Patriots open their season on the road, traveling to UMass on Friday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
