George Mason's men's cross country team finished in first place at the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware on Saturday morning at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del. The Patriots finished with nine runners in the top-20 in the 8k race.
Leading the way for a Mason team that took the team title with a total of 30 points was sophomore Everett Hackett, who crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 25:43.23. Sam Horn (4th, 25:58.53), James Burns (5th, 25:58.60), Scott Tekesky (7th, 26:03.08) and Alex Zyryanov (12th, 26:18.26) also scored points for the Patriots.
George Mason finished as the runner-up to Delaware in the team scoring in the women's 5k with a total of 65 points. Three Patriots finished in the top-10, including Rochelle Sceats (2nd, 18:26.53), Sandy Castro (3rd, 18:59.04) and Laura Sinclair (5th, 19:08.65). Samantha Fickel (15th, 19:41.93) and Monique McKenzie (50th, 21:04.53) rounded out the scoring for Mason.
Both the men's and women's teams will take a week off before competing at the CAA Championship Meet at New Market Battlefield in New Market, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
