Holly Jones

George Mason Athletics named Holly K. Jones head coach of the George Mason cheerleading program on August 6, 2024. Jones will be entering her first year as head coach in the 2024-25 season.

A native of New England with 16 years of coaching experience and nearly 30 years in the sport, Jones has coached nationally-ranked high school cheerleading programs in Virginia and Florida as well as a nationally-ranked Pop Warner youth cheerleading program.

"We are thrilled to welcome Holly and her family to George Mason University," said Zack Bolno, deputy athletic director, director external affairs. "Holly's genuine passion for the sport and holistic approach to the student-athlete experience will make her a great fit to lead our cheerleading program. Throughout this process, Holly prioritized the program's commitment to being good ambassadors as well as the importance of engaging with our campus and Northern Virginia community."

Jones is a member of USA Cheer, USASF Cheer, and is a current Virginia High School League (VHSL) competitive cheerleading judge.

"I am beyond excited to join the George Mason University family and the cheerleading program," said Jones. "I am looking forward to supporting George Mason and working with student athletes and staff on elevating the game day and spirit experience." 

Jones most recently was the head coach at St. Paul VI Catholic High School (PVI) in Chantilly, Va. Under her direction, the program saw substantial growth in the competitive side of cheerleading, culminating in numerous local and regional wins and top 10 national rankings during her seven-year tenure.

In addition to her time at PVI, Jones coached at Phoenix Elite AllStars in Chantilly, Va. where her teams won many awards and accolades over the years. Jones was also a part of the 2020-2021 IOC6NT Cheerleading World's team "Resurrection," where she competed internationally as an athlete.

Prior to joining PVI in 2016, Jones coached at Bay High School in Panama City, Fla., where she helped the Varsity team to their back-to-back and fourth Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State title in cheerleading, as well as top-10 national rankings for both JV and Varsity teams.

In conjunction with her time coaching at Bay High School, Jones coached for the Florida Panhandle Pop Warner league. Her first year coaching a youth recreational team ended in a sixth place national finish, with first place age ranking in the state of Florida and regionally across the Florida Panhandle.

In 2015, she was awarded the Florida Panhandle Pop Warner Volunteer of the Year award.

Jones attended Florida State University and was a member of the all-girl cheerleading team in 2004. She earned a bachelor's degree in humanities and communications from Florida State in 2008 and a master's in public relations from Kent State University in 2017. Jones and her husband, Christopher, have a son, Harrison. The Jones family resides in Fairfax, Va.
