Ashly Kennedy

Ashly Kennedy enters her fourth season at Mason as an assistant coach and fifth overall. Kennedy was a volunteer assistant at Mason in the fall of 2008 after serving as a volunteer assistant in the spring of 2008 with Loyola.

In 2009, Kennedy was named the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year. In her first season assisting Diane Drake, Kennedy helped Mason to a 14-4-2 record which was the biggest single-season turnaround in the nation in 2009 and tied the CAA record for the best single-season improvement.

Kennedy finished her playing career at the University of Maryland where she was a decorated player for the Terrapins. While with Maryland she was named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Team and she also earned several honors as a freshman. She was chosen to the ACC All-Freshman Team and was a member of the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic All-Freshman Team and an honorable mention Freshman All-American. Despite being a defender, finished her career with five goals and three assists and started all 72 matches in which she appeared.

Kennedy graduated from the University of Maryland in the Fall of 2007 with a degree in Family Science. Before matriculating to Maryland, she played at St. Mary's High School in Edgewater, Md. She was a NSCAA High School All-American and the Maryland Soccer Gatorade High School Player of the Year. She also earned Player of the Year honors from the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun.

Kennedy began coaching in 2004 at the University of Maryland Girl's Soccer Camp. As camp director she evaluated technical and tactical skills among U-12 girls and developed training sessions for U-12 girls to reach their full potential. Beginning in the fall of 2007, Kennedy began working at Coerver Soccer as a coach helping players expand their soccer skills, techniques and game tactics. She also began coaching the Freestate Elite U-14 Club team at the same time as an assistant. In 2010, she took over the Freestate Phoenix, a U18 premier team that included current Patriot Lyndse Hokanson. She also currently coaches a U12 Freestate team.

After graduating from University of Maryland in December of 2007, she spent the spring of 2008 as a volunteer assistant coach at Loyola. She came to Mason during the summer of 2008 and helped the Patriots as a volunteer during the 2008 season. She currently has a NSCAA National License.
