Kelsey Sheridan finished her second season as an assistant coach at George Mason in 2018.
In two seasons at Mason, she has helped the Patriots win 22 games, finish in the top four in the A-10 both seasons and make the A-10 Tournament each of the last two years. She also has strengthened the defense, mentoring Kira Greer and Hannah Warpinski. Both defenders earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference accolades in back-to-back years under Sheridan's watch, including Warpinski being named to the first team in 2017. Goalkeeper Melissa Semkiw also earned A-10 All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team honors in 2017.
Sheridan was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 defender at the University of Massachusetts before starting her college coaching career last year at Amherst College. At Mason, she will coach the defenders and goalkeepers.
Sheridan arrived at Mason after one season on the coaching staff at Amherst College. She helped guide the Purple & White to a 13-5 record, a No. 8 national ranking by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and into the third round of the Division III NCAA Tournament. Sheridan served as the defensive coordinator and led a unit that ranked second in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in save percentage and third in goals against average and ground balls.
She mentored three All-NESCAC selections – goalkeeper Christy Forrest and defenders Hanna Krueger and Rowena Schenck. Forrest was named Second Team IWLCA All-America in addition to earning All-Berkshire Region First Team honors and All-NESCAC accolades. Krueger (First Team) and Schenck (Second Team) were each named All-Berkshire Region on top of earning All-NESCAC recognition.
Prior to joining the staff at Amherst, Sheridan enjoyed a successful four-year career at UMass. She helped the Minutewomen to four consecutive A-10 regular-season and tournament championships and four trips to the NCAA Tournament. She also contributed to UMass’ current 45-game A-10 winning streak, which is the longest conference winning streak in NCAA history and spans the last six seasons.
Sheridan was twice named an IWLCA All-Region and All-Atlantic 10 defender and finished her career in the program’s top 10 in all-time draw controls. She was also tabbed to the A-10 All-Tournament Team in each of her last two seasons.
She closed her career in impressive fashion in 2014, leading UMass in caused turnovers and ground balls. She earned First Team recognition from both the IWLCA and Atlantic 10, was named to the A-10 All-Academic squad and was tabbed First Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). She was also the MVP of the IWLCA North/South Senor All-Star Game.
Sheridan also ran on the UMass track and field team for one season, competing in the 400 and 800 meters while in her first year of grad school in 2014-15.
Since 2012, Sheridan has also spearheaded several camps and clinics for middle school and high school players. She has coached at camps up in Massachusetts and has spent the last three summers working at the prestigious Northstar Invitational in Lake Placid, N.Y. This summer, she served as a coach at Lacrossover, which is based in Alexandria, Va.
She is currently a member of the U.S. Women’s National Lacrosse Team and competed in several tournaments and training sessions during 2015-16.
