Andre Bolton brings more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience and a championship pedigree to the George Mason University women’s basketball program, where he serves as associate head coach and director of player development.
Since arriving in Fairfax in 2021, Bolton has played an integral role in one of the most remarkable program turnarounds in the country. Over the past four seasons, he has helped guide George Mason to its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Patriots transformed from a team with zero conference wins and just three total victories into a championship program, setting new records in wins, conference performance, and national recognition.
Before coming to George Mason, Bolton spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown University, where he helped lead the Hoyas to two WNIT appearances and consecutive BIG EAST Tournament semifinal runs. During his time on the Hilltop, he coached four All-BIG EAST selections, including 2018 Defensive Player of the Year Dionna White and Most Improved Player Cynthia Petke. He was also selected to participate in the NCAA Minority Coaching Series, a leadership initiative in partnership with the WBCA.
Bolton previously served five seasons under head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis at Bethune-Cookman from 2012–17. In that time, the Wildcats earned back-to-back WNIT berths, captured the MEAC regular season title, and posted one of the longest win streaks in Division I. Bolton helped coach four All-MEAC honorees, including Defensive Player of the Year Kailyn Williams, while the staff earned MEAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
His coaching career also includes seven seasons at Delaware State, where he served as top assistant and recruiting coordinator. He helped lead the Hornets to the 2007 MEAC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth—the first in program history—while mentoring five All-MEAC and three All-Tournament selections. That season, DSU ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense.
From 1997 to 2002, Bolton was an assistant at Howard University, where he helped guide the Bison to both MEAC regular season and tournament titles in 2000–01 and a return to the NCAA Tournament. He was instrumental in the development of WNBA draft pick and MEAC Player of the Year Andrea Gardner, and contributed to a second straight regular season title the following year.
Bolton began his coaching career with the Hampton Roads Pro-Am and served as summer camp commissioner at Christopher Newport University from 1993–97.
A four-year basketball letterwinner at Christopher Newport, Bolton was inducted into the CNU Athletics Hall of Fame and holds a degree in business administration. He also played professionally in Sweden, Spain, and Turkey from 1997–2000.
Respected for his veteran leadership, defensive expertise, and player development, Bolton remains a cornerstone of George Mason’s championship culture and continued ascent in the Atlantic 10.
