2015: Played in 89 sets for the Patriots this season. Earned AVCA/Sports Imports National Player of the Week on 3/3. Earned EIVA Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week each once this season. Finished with 224 kills, 43 blocks, 157 digs and a team-best 50 serve aces (2nd most in Mason history). His 0.56 service aces per set ranked second in the Nation. Was named as an Off the Block National Server of the Year finalist. Recorded a season-best 21 kills at Princeton on 2/27 and a career-best 17 digs vs. Sacred Heart on 3/27. Also had a career-high seven aces vs. Lees McRae on 2/20 which ranks 4th best all time. His 81 aces ranks fifth all time in George Mason history.
2014: Played in 71 sets for the Patriots ... selected as the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week two times and the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week once this season ... finished with 192 kills, which ranked second on the team this season ... his 109 digs this year ranked third on the team ... recorded a career-best 23 kills in a win vs. Princeton on April 11 ... the following week at Princeton, Velez recorded a career-best 12 digs.
2013: Did not appear for the Patriots.
High School: Lettered in volleyball, basketball, swimming and cross country at Colegia La Piedad ... was volleyball team MVP three times ... two-time Puerto Rico Volleyball Championship All-Star ... two-time high school most progressive basketball player ... played club with the Guaynabo Met, Guaynabo Pitirres and Puerto Rico National Team ... earned President's Education Program Outstanding Academic Achievement in 2011.
