2017: Tied for second-most sets played at 92…started in all 27 of Mason’s matches. Barnes was second on the team with 172 total kills and third in kills per set with 1.87. He hit 0.221 on 425 total attempts (second-most) in 2017…contributed 26 assists – second-most by a non-setter – and 16 service aces…second-best 94 digs (1.02 per set) during his sophomore season…a total of 32 blocks (0.35 per set)…finished with 205.5 points, second-best mark on the team…four double-digit performances – season-high 13 kills against Coker (March 4) and Barton (March 24)…season-high four assists versus McKendree (March 3)…had two service aces on four occasions, including at No. 1 and eventual national champion Ohio State (Jan. 10)…double-digit digs – 10 – against Barton on March 24…season-best four blocks at NJIT (Feb. 17).

2016: Appeared in 57 sets…Recorded 46 kills during an EIVA title-winning season…Served eight aces…Had 40 digs on the campaign…Posted a season-high seven kills at Charleston (1/16)…Against Ball State (1/30), recorded eight digs and three blocks (two assisted, one solo)…Recorded two assists against Harvard (2/20)…Notched a season-high 11 digs against Charleston (3/25)…Played a set against Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament.

Prep: Kyle Barnes comes to Mason after a successful senior year, in which he helped his high school Princess Anne defend its Virginia state championship. During these back-to-back championship seasons with the Cavaliers, Barnes was named Conference 9 Player of the Year and Tidewater Region Player of the Year both years, as well as being selected on the 2013 and 2014 First Team All-State. Barnes further developed his skills while representing Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club for five years. During high school, the outside hitter also played basketball for two years.

Personal: Son of Greg and Elaine Barnes...has an older sister. Pursues a degree in sport management and still enjoys playing basketball as a hobby. Also recruited by the 2015 NCAA champions Loyola-Chicago, Penn State and California State University-Northridge.
