HARRISONBURG, Va. — George Mason lost to James Madison 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 20-25) on Sunday.
The Patriots fell behind 11-4 in the first set as James Madison scored four straight points on three Green & Gold attack errors and a James Madison kill. The Patriots closed the margin to 13-10 with help from a James Madison service error, a James Madison attack error and an
Autumn Martinez-Robinson ace. James Madison answered with the next three points, and the Patriots dropped the set 25-14.
The Patriots opened the second set with early offense from
Gabriella Gelfound and
Kiera Hamilton and went in front 8-7 on a block by Gelfound and
Jenna Hunt. James Madison moved ahead from there, helped by Patriots attack errors, and built a 19-12 advantage. The Green & Gold got late kills from Gelfound and Hamilton, but James Madison took the set 25-18.
The Patriots erased an early 6-2 deficit with a six-point surge, as
Ava Cheney served five straight points that included back-to-back aces and Hamilton moved the Green & Gold ahead 7-6 with a kill. James Madison answered with six straight points after the Patriots led 9-7, and the Green & Gold later got back within 15-17 before James Madison closed out the set 25-20.
