FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason (4-2-2) defeated Hampton (1-5-1) 3-0 on Sunday at George Mason Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Patriots scored all three goals in the second half, when they outshot Hampton 8-2 and earned five corner kicks. The Patriots finished with 15 shots, eight on goal, and their goalkeeper totaled six saves in the shutout.

The Patriots kept Hampton off the scoreboard in the first half behind five saves from
Libby Davy while defending six Hampton corner kicks. The Patriots generated seven shots, including
Mia Casciani's attempt off the right woodwork and saved efforts from
Abigail Merchant,
Mia Arevalo-Delcid and
Kylie Beauregard, and the half ended 0-0.
The Patriots broke through 32 seconds into the second half when Merchant scored off assists from
Isabella Yousefi and
Gianna Chrapek. It was Merchant's first goal of the season and as a Patriot. The Green & Gold earned three early corner kicks around Casciani's goal at 50:55, marking her fifth goal of the season to lead the team. Casciani assisted Beauregard's goal at 54:26 to make it 3-0. Davy made a save in the 76th minute, and the Patriots closed out the 3-0 win.
Casciani recorded a goal and her first assist of the season, finishing with three points on three shots. Merchant scored the game-winning goal and put both of her shots on frame. Beauregard added a goal and led the Patriots with four shots, including three on goal. Davy made six saves and earned the shutout.
Up next, the Patriots travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Saint Joseph's and open Atlantic 10 play on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m.
