FARMVILLE, Va. — George Mason played Longwood to a 1-1 tie Thursday at Longwood Athletics Complex. The teams split the scoring by half, with the Patriots getting the only first-half goal before Longwood scored after halftime. The Patriots put four of their 10 shots on goal and limited Longwood to two shots on frame, while Longwood held an 11-10 edge in total shots.
The Patriots opened the scoring in the first half when
Mia Arevalo-Delcid converted a penalty kick at 31:16. Earlier,
Keira Jeffries and
Carly Passaro each put a shot on goal that Madie Wessel saved. Longwood generated late shots, but the Green & Gold took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Patriots' main second-half push came from 63:50 to 72:56, when Arevalo-Delcid forced a save,
Mia Casciani hit the woodwork and the Patriots generated four shots and a corner without scoring. Longwood answered at 80:51, as Meghan Piazza scored off Brooke Owens' assist to tie the match at 1-1. The Green & Gold did not record another shot after Jeffries' attempt at 78:07, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Abigail Merchant made their first starts in the Green & Gold. Arevalo-Delcid scored the Patriots' goal, converted her lone penalty attempt and led the team with three shots, including two on goal. With the goal, Arevalo-Delcid now ties Casciani for the team lead with four goals this season.
Libby Davy played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save. Passaro finished with two shots and put one on goal. Jeffries also added two shots, including one on frame.
The Patriots are 3-2-2 overall. Longwood is 3-3-2 overall.
