WASHINGTON, D.C. — George Mason (1-1, 0-0 Atlantic 10) fell to Georgetown University (2-0, 0-0 Big East) in a competitive four-set match on Saturday at McDonough Arena, with a final score of 1-3. 

George Mason started the first set with steady play, capitalizing on Georgetown's early service errors to stay level. Notable contributions came from Nia Thompson and Kiera Hamilton, who each secured key kills to maintain momentum for the Green & Gold. Despite this, Georgetown managed to edge ahead late in the set with a series of successful blocks and kills, ultimately pulling away to win the set 30-28.

The Patriots overcame an early deficit in the second set with a series of strategic plays. Hamilton's strong offensive performance, assisted by Camryn Weldon, helped the team level the score at 10-10 after trailing. This momentum continued as Meredith Brown's blocking efforts were pivotal in turning the tide, allowing George Mason to take a 22-20 lead. Although Georgetown managed to close the gap briefly, the Green & Gold secured the set with a final block by Brown and Weldon, culminating in a 25-22 victory. The set ended with George Mason maintaining control and balancing the match score.

In the third set, the Patriots began with momentum through a series of effective attacks. Hamilton and Brown each delivered crucial kills, propelling the team to an early advantage with a 4-2 lead. Weldon consistently facilitated these efforts, assisting on multiple successful plays. However, Georgetown responded with a decisive run, capitalizing on several errors from George Mason to establish a significant lead. Despite a late push from the Patriots, highlighted by Jenna Hunt's and Thompson's offensive efforts, Georgetown maintained control. The set concluded with Georgetown securing a 25-19 victory.

In the decisive fourth set, George Mason initiated play with momentum as Gabriella Gelfound secured an early point through a kill assisted by Autumn Martinez-Robinson. However, Georgetown responded with a series of points, including kills by Katherine McGregor and Dionna Mitchell, pushing the score to 4-1 in its favor. The Green & Gold battled back to level the score at 6-6, highlighted by a kill from Thompson assisted by Martinez-Robinson, but service and attack errors allowed Georgetown to reclaim control. Despite George Mason's efforts, including multiple kills by Hamilton and Thompson, Georgetown maintained its lead. A late rally by the Patriots, featuring a series of points capped by another kill from Gelfound, narrowed the gap to 24-21. Ultimately, Georgetown secured the set and the match with a final kill from McGregor, ending the game with a 25-21 score in the fourth set.
