FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason (3-1-0) continued its strong start to the season with a 4-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's (0-4-0) on Sunday, Aug. 23, at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots remain unbeaten in the all-time series, improving to 2-0-1 against the Mountaineers in the first meeting between the teams since 2010.

From the opening whistle, the Green & Gold came out with an aggressive, confident attack, while goalkeeper Libby Davy played high to help keep pressure on Mount St. Mary's. In the opening 15 minutes, the Patriots recorded six shots, earned four corner kicks and found the back of the net.

HOW THEY SCORED
George Mason
15' | Gianna Chrapek dribbled 15 yards up the right flank before finding Isabella Yousefi at the top of the box. Yousefi slipped a pass toward Mia Arevalo-Delcid, who made a run toward goal and nutmegged the keeper to score her first goal of the season.

27' | Receiving a pass from Carly Passaro, Aaliyah Schinaman turned to beat her defender and drove into the left side of the 18-yard box before being fouled by Addy Gallagher.

Mia Arevalo-Delcid stepped to the spot for the first penalty kick attempt of her career. She struck it with her right foot into the left side of the net as the keeper went the opposite direction, completing her first collegiate brace.

47' | Molly Starner sent the ball forward to Carly Passaro, who made a run down the left flank before sending a cross into a crowded box. After multiple Mountaineers were unable to clear, Mia Casciani gained possession and drove toward goal. Her initial shot was saved, but the rebound popped up, allowing Casciani to head it home for her second goal of the season.

58' | Carly Passaro initially delivered a corner kick from the right, but the Patriots were unable to settle the ball. Following an unsuccessful clearance by the Mountaineers, Passaro regained possession about 25 yards out on the right side and sent a ball into a crowded box. Freshman Keira Jeffries rose for a perfectly timed header, beating the outstretched hands of the keeper to score her third collegiate goal.

Mount St. Mary's
67' | Hannah Geiser took a Mountaineers throw-in from beyond 50 yards out on the left side, playing a short ball to Cassidy Nichols before receiving it back. Geiser then launched a ball from beyond 50 yards out toward the 12-yard line, where a Patriot defender's attempted clearance was headed high into goal for an own goal.

78' | On a left-side corner kick from Caoume Valle, the ball was delivered to the top of the six-yard box, where Aayla Burgo rose above Libby Davy to head the ball into the net.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Patriots controlled possession throughout the match, holding a 71%-29% advantage over Mount St. Mary's. George Mason outshot the Mountaineers 18-3 and earned a 14-1 edge in corner kicks. Mountaineers goalkeeper Abigail Makela was forced into eight saves, while Libby Davy made two stops for the Patriots.

The physical match featured 28 total fouls, with Mount St. Mary's committing 18 and George Mason 10. Both teams received two yellow cards.

Mason's four-goal performance marked the second time this season the Patriots have found the back of the net four times, matching their season-opening win over VMI. The Patriots' previous four-goal outing came in a 4-0 victory over St. Bonaventure on Oct. 2, 2025, which stood as the squad's highest-scoring performance of the 2025 season.
