FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason women's soccer freshman Keira Jeffries was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday, following a standout collegiate debut that helped lead the Patriots to a season-opening victory over VMI.
A Mount Pleasant, S.C., native and graduate of Wando High School, Jeffries made an immediate impact in her first appearance as a Patriot on Thursday, Aug. 13, against the Keydets. Making her first collegiate start, Jeffries played 57 minutes and recorded four shots, including three on goal, as Mason earned a 4-1 victory.
The offensive standout scored her first collegiate goal in the 71st minute before completing her first collegiate brace in the 88th minute. Jeffries also registered her first collegiate assist in the 84th minute, setting up fellow freshman Kylie Beauregard.
Jeffries' five-point performance was a key part of Mason's season-opening win, marking the Patriots' first season-opening victory since 2018.
The freshman continued to provide an attacking presence in Mason's second match of the season against James Madison on Sunday, Aug. 16. Jeffries played 65 minutes and remained active from the flanks, helping create an attacking threat against the Dukes.
Jeffries becomes the first Mason women's soccer player to earn Atlantic 10 weekly honors since the 2022 season.
