FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn ('06) has announced that assistant coaches Louis Hinnant and Andy Fox will be promoted to the position of associate head coach, beginning in the 2026-27 season.

Louis Hinnant Elevated To Associate Head Coach
Former Boston College standout guard Louis Hinnant will be elevated to associate head coach entering his fourth season on Skinn's staff. Over his time with the program, Hinnant has helped George Mason set new program bests for wins (70), league wins (35), overall win percentage (.693) and league win percentage (.648) for a Patriot staff over its first three seasons. The Patriots also captured a share of their first A-10 regular season title in 2025.

"Lou is a talented coach who has an innate ability to recruit, develop and communicate," Skinn said. "From both an offensive and defensive perspective, he has a brilliant basketball mind and I have the utmost trust in him and his abilities. He's a DMV guy who's helped me navigate the aspects of running a program at a high level. He will be a head coach soon."

Prior to his time in Fairfax, Hinnant served as an assistant coach at mid-major power UMass Lowell for nine seasons. While with the Riverhawks, he helped lead the program to all-time bests for wins (26) and win percentage (.765) in 2022-23, as well as multiple 20+ win seasons in the America East Conference.

"I am honored to be elevated to associate head coach at such a prestigious University," Hinnant said. "This opportunity is a direct reflection of the leadership, support and mentorship I've received under Head Coach Tony Skinn, President Dr. Washington and Athletic Director Marvin Lewis. I am grateful for the trust that the program has placed in me and remain committed to advancing our mission of providing an exceptional student-athlete experience, contributing to the continued success of our program, and applying PATRIOT PRESSURE to every obstacle in our way."

Andy Fox Promoted To Associate Head Coach
Fox will now serve as associate head coach after a successful first season in Fairfax, where he helped guide the Green & Gold to the program's best-ever overall (18-1) and A-10 starts (6-0). GMU earned wins over three NCAA Tournament Teams (#25/24 Saint Louis, VCU, Penn) and the Patriots were the only school in the A-10 to defeat the top-3 programs in the league standings.

"I've known Coach Fox my entire career," Skinn said. "He's one of the smartest guys I know and he's a jack of all trades when it comes to recruiting, scheduling and operations. In this landscape, where there's such a broad definition of what an assistant coach is, he checks off so many boxes while providing a high-major perspective. He's an outstanding member of our staff."

A seasoned college coach with experience in six different conferences Fox served as director of basketball operations alongside Coach Skinn at Louisiana Tech University, before coaching stops at Vanderbilt and Army. While with the Commodores, he served as the first full-time basketball specific GM in Power 5 college basketball before elevating to associate head coach for his final two seasons in Nashville, amongst a host of other roles.  He was instrumental in the signing of the program's 2022 and 2023 classes, which ranked No. 12 and No. 32 nationally on Rivals.com, and worked closely with multiple NBA players including Aaron Nesmith (Indiana Pacers) and Scottie Pippen Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies).  He also played a key role in the recruitment of Vanderbilt's only ever Defensive Player of the Year Liam Robbins (2023) and the Vanderbilt single-season record holder for both assists and steals, Tyler Tanner (2026).

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve at George Mason University under Coach Skinn and alongside an exceptional staff," Fox said. "I appreciate his continued trust and confidence in my ability to contribute to our program's success. In my short time in Fairfax, I've been incredibly impressed by the community's deep-rooted connection to George Mason Basketball. I look forward to helping our program continue to compete for championships."
