FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis has announced the signing of Irati Franco Dominguez, a 6-foot guard from Portugalete, Spain.

A 2026 McDonald's All-American nominee, Franco Dominguez joins the Patriots after helping lead the Dragons to the 2025-26 Charter Athletic Association (CAA) State Championship while serving as a team captain.

"Irati Franco Dominguez! She's a high-energy player who breathes the game of basketball," said Blair-Lewis. "She is very skilled with a high energy and a contagiously positive attitude. She's a strong student who has the discipline needed to succeed at George Mason! Irati is a sponge and ray of light, we can't wait for our fans to see what she brings to our legacy. Welcome to Fairfax, Irati!"

Originally from Portugalete, Spain, Franco Dominguez developed her game through international competition before continuing her career in the United States at The St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, Va., where she helped the Scotties win the VISAA Div 3 State Tournament her junior season. She then transferred to the nationally recognized AZ Compass Prep after the closure of St. Margaret's in 2025. As a senior, she played a key role in the Dragons' state championship run.

Her combination of size, playmaking ability and defensive versatility will add depth to George Mason's backcourt as the Patriots prepare for the 2026-27 season.
