FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn ('06) has announced the addition of Casey Cathrall as the program's strength & conditioning coach.

Cathrall worked alongside Coach Skinn at Louisiana Tech for two seasons from 2015-17. Since that time, Cathrall has served as the men's basketball strength coach at the University of Dayton and the University of Miami, where he's worked with multiple NCAA Tournament teams and mentored seven NBA Draft selections.

"Relationships and trust are everything in this business, and the relationship I built with Casey at Louisiana Tech was special," Skinn said. "He's an all-in guy. His energy is infectious and he develops outstanding connectivity with his players. To be able to recruit Casey away from a program like Dayton is a big time deal for George Mason. He's more than just a strength coach – he's someone who makes a tremendous impact on the culture of a program."

Most recently, Cathrall served as the men's basketball strength & conditioning coach at Dayton from 2019-26, where he designed and implemented strength, conditioning, flexibility, and nutrition plans for the Flyers. During his tenure, Dayton reached the postseason six times, won an NCAA Tournament contest in 2024 and finished the 2020 campaign ranked third nationally after 29 regular season victories.

Cathrall also worked with the Flyers in 2017-18, before joining former George Mason head coach Jim Larranaga at the University of Miami for the 2018-19 campaign.

While serving alongside Skinn at Louisiana Tech under former George Mason assistant Eric Konkol, the Bulldogs put together an impressive 46 victories in just two seasons.

"I've always admired Coach Skinn's ability to maximize talent," Cathrall said. "His work ethic is at level that's been unmatched by anyone over the course of my career. What Coach and his staff have accomplished in such a short time at George Mason is impressive. In this business, you want to be around people you know - not just with the job they do, but also the character of who they are. I am honored to be aligned with someone like Coach Skinn and am excited to be a part of the George Mason program."

Cathrall returns to the DMV for the second time in his career, having served as director of strength & conditioning at UMBC from 2014-15. In that role, he worked primarily with men's and women's basketball and designed the UMBC Event Center's varsity weight room.

Cathrall worked at Florida International University for the 2013-14 school year, primarily working with men's and women's basketball, football, baseball and women's swimming and diving. He also earned an internship at the National Strength and Conditioning Association's Performance in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the summer of 2013, assisting with the implementation of workouts for various tactical athletes, including FBI, local SWAT, military personnel and the Wounded Warrior Project.

During his time as a graduate student at the University of Miami from 2012-13, Cathrall served as a full-time graduate strength and conditioning intern for the men's basketball team during its ACC championship season. He also assisted with strength and conditioning for women's basketball, women's swimming and women's soccer.

Cathrall earned his bachelor's degree in Clinical Health Studies/Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in 2012 and his master's degree in Exercise Physiology: Strength and Conditioning from Miami in 2014. He was named the University of Miami's Graduate Student of the Year in Strength and Conditioning in 2014.

He is certified as a CSCS Strength and Conditioning Specialist and also has completed a fellowship in applied functional sciences from the Gray Institute. He holds additional certifications in corrective exercise, stretching, and strength and conditioning.

A native of Scranton, Pa., Cathrall and his wife Grace have two daughters: Lily and Alexandra.

Cathrall joins a George Mason program which has won 70 games over Coach Skinn's three seasons and reached the postseason in back-to-back campaigns for the first time since 2007-09.

He is impressed with what he's seen during the summer training period from the team's 2026-27 roster.

"We have a group of guys who are bought in to the everyday process of getting better," Cathrall said. "It's a tough, gritty group that's competitive not only between the lines, but in everything they do. It's been a treat for me to watch Team 61 put forth that level of effort every single day this summer."
