FAIRFAX, Va. – The 2026 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded Sunday, May 3, at George Mason Stadium, with the George Mason track & field teams delivering standout performances. The Patriots captured 12 total medals—four gold, four silver, and four bronze—while breaking three meet records. Abby Weening and Jordan Edwards were also recognized with end-of-season awards following exceptional performances.
Abby Weening continued her stellar outdoor season by setting a new meet record in the women's heptathlon with 5433 points, earning gold after finishing second in the previous two A-10 outdoor championships. She placed first in the high jump (1.79m) and long jump (5.81m), and second in the 100m hurdles (14.01), 200m (25.33), and javelin (36.20m), finishing more than 420 points ahead of the field.
In the final event of the day, Weening secured another gold in the women's high jump, clearing 1.79m to set an additional meet record. She was named the Most Outstanding Women's Field Performer.
Ella Semple also delivered a record-breaking performance, setting a new A-10 outdoor championship meet record in the women's 5000m by almost 13 seconds. Continuing her dominant year—which includes an A-10 cross country individual title, two indoor event championships, and breaking both indoor and outdoor women's 5000m school records—Semple claimed gold in 16:04.36.
Jordan Edwards highlighted the men's track events with a dramatic win in the 200m. Running from the inside lane, Edwards surged late to win by 0.01 seconds in 21.48. Earlier in the day, he earned bronze in the 100m with a season-best 10.64. Edwards also helped the men's 4x100 relay team—alongside Jalen Johnson, Denver Shields, and Mason Samuels—capture silver in 40.52. He was named the Most Outstanding Men's Track Performer.
Additional podium finishes and highlights included Cameron Portis earning silver in the men's discus (51.13m), while freshman Kellen La Roche claimed his first A-10 medal with silver in the high jump (2.09m).
In the men's 110m hurdles, Davian Burke took bronze in 14.21, leading a 3-4-5 finish for the Patriots, with Mason Morales (14.25) and Jayden Apenteng (14.96) following. The Patriots also went 2-3-4 in the men's 400m hurdles, as Joziah Johnson earned silver with a season-best 51.69, Burke added bronze in 52.98, and Apenteng finished fourth in 53.20.
The men's 4x800 relay team of Messiah McKinley, Nicholas Emmert, Caleb Hymans, and Paul McClain captured bronze in 7:29.86.
On the women's side, Kaela-Michelle O'Connor placed fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.27), Simone Hamlar finished fourth in the 400m (55.66), and Helena Santacana recorded a personal best of 1:00.22 to place fourth in the 400m hurdles. Freshman Kymara Fernandez posted a personal best of 11.96 to finish fifth in the triple jump.
William Michael Baker added points in the men's discus with a personal-best throw of 44.75m, placing sixth.
The George Mason men's team finished second overall with 147 points, behind Rhode Island (250.5) and ahead of VCU (109). The women's team placed sixth with 79 points, as Dayton claimed its first A-10 track & field championship with 153 points.
The Patriots return to action Friday, May 8, at the Navy National Elite Meet, as they continue competition this outdoor season with the goal of posting NCAA regional qualifying marks.
