FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots rallied past George Washington with four runs in the eighth inning for an 8-5 victory in the middle game of the series on Saturday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

THE LEADOFF

• Freshman second baseman Jackson Morse had three hits and scored two runs.
• Sophomore left fielder Lucas Alberti had two hits, two RBI and scored a run.
• Graduate student catcher Logan Vaughan had two hits including his second home run of the season and two RBI.

George Washington (17-28, 9-14 A-10) took the lead against George Mason (21-23, 12-11 A-10) sophomore starter Jake Drumm in the top of the first.  George Washington graduate student center fielder Jack Kent reached on a fielding error to lead off the inning and with two outs scored on a single to put the Revolutionaries in front, 1-0.

In the top of the second, George Washington sophomore second baseman Charlie Walsh led off with a bunt single and scored on a double by junior first baseman Josh Wenz to make it 2-0.

The Revolutionaries added a run in the top of the fourth with a one-out walk, and back-to-back singles to increase the lead to 3-0.

Vaughan put the Patriots on the board with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fourth off George Washington senior starter Max Haug.
 
In the home half of the sixth, the Patriots sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs on five singles against Haug and junior reliever Matt Bruno to take the lead 4-3.  Senior right fielder Drew Canody drove in a run with a single and Alberti added a two-out, two-run single in the inning.

George Washington regained the lead in the top of the seventh with a pair of solo home runs off Patriots redshirt-junior reliever Owen Stewart to make it 5-4.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Patriots batted around and scored four runs on one hit and five walks against Bruno and sophomore reliever Drew Harris. 

Morse, Alberti and graduate student center fielder Luciano Terilli each walked to load the bases.  Junior first baseman Matthew Westley forced in a run with a walk and Alberti raced home on a wild pitch to vault the Patriots back in front, 6-5.  Junior third baseman Jake Butler then walked to load the bases again.  Senior designated hitter Evan Blanchard delivered with a RBI-single and Vaughan knocked in a run with a ground out to complete the comeback for the 8-5 win. 

For the Patriots, Drumm allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks in 6.0 innings.  Stewart (4-4) gave up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.

Morse went 3-for-4 with a walk and scored two runs.  Alberti was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and scored a run.  Vaughan finished 2-for-4 with his second home run and two RBI.  Blanchard and Canody each had two hits, one RBI and scored a run.

For the Revolutionaries, Haug allowed four runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings.  Bruno (0-3) surrendered four runs on one hit and five walks and took the loss.

George Mason and George Washington wrap up the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon at Spuhler Field.
