FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball has added a dynamic guard to its 2026-27 roster, as head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis announced the signing of transfer Tia Dobson (UNCW).
Dobson arrives in Fairfax after two seasons at UNCW, where she quickly established herself as a versatile playmaker and impact defender.
"A fierce leader, amazing person and high level student, Tia brings experience to our program," said Coach Blair-Lewis. "Her mindset is contagious and we can't wait to have her impact us here in Fairfax! She's outstanding in the classroom, a very fiery athlete, and an ultimate competitor. We are so excited about this addition to our Mason Family. Welcome Tia!"
As a sophomore in 2025-26, Dobson appeared in two games with two starts before suffering a season-ending injury. She made an immediate impact early in the year, scoring nine points against East Carolina while going a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line and adding three steals.
Dobson's freshman campaign showcased her all-around ability and potential. She played in 29 games with 18 starts, averaging 5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.4 steals in 22.3 minutes per game. She shot 75.4% from the free throw line and ranked among the top freshmen in the Colonial Athletic Association.
A strong facilitator, Dobson led all CAA freshmen with 65 assists while also finishing second on her team with 42 steals—marking the third-highest total by a freshman in the conference. She recorded six double-figure scoring games and delivered several standout performances throughout the season, including a career-high 16 points and eight assists in an overtime win over Hofstra. She also posted 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists in a victory over Hampton and grabbed a career-best seven rebounds in her first collegiate start.
Prior to her collegiate career, Dobson starred at Mainland High School, where she helped lead the program to its first-ever state championship in 2023. She finished her prep career with over 1,000 points, earning McDonald's All-America nominee honors while averaging 10.2 points and 3.6 assists per game.
Dobson brings experience, toughness, and playmaking ability to a George Mason squad looking to build momentum heading into the 2026-27 season.
