FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis has announced the addition of transfer Desirae Ashton (Bucknell) to the program for the 2026–27 season.
A native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Ashton brings length, defensive presence, and resilience to the Green & Gold after two seasons with the Bison.
"Desirae is the definition of a student-athlete," said Coach Blair-Lewis. "On the court, she brings a high motor and the ability to impact the game on both ends. Whether it's making plays for teammates, defending with intensity, or stepping up in big moments, she competes at a high level every possession. Off the court just as impressive — a focused, driven student who takes pride in her academics and carries herself with maturity. Mason Family, Desirae Ashton!"
As a sophomore in 2025–26, Ashton appeared in 27 games with one start, averaging 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 48.8 percent from the field. She made her presence felt on the defensive end, totaling 18 steals and 17 blocks, while also adding 12 assists. Ashton posted a season-high 14 points at Boston University and grabbed a season-best eight rebounds while also recording four steals at Colgate.
Ashton's freshman campaign in 2024–25 was limited due to a season-ending injury, though she saw action in several games and averaged 1.0 rebound per contest.
Prior to Bucknell, Ashton was a decorated prep standout. She played at Bishop Ireton high school where she earned Second Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State honors while helping lead her team to the VISAA Division I State Championship in 2023–24. She also competed on the Nike EYBL circuit with Team Durant 17U.
Ashton will join the Patriots ahead of the 2026–27 season.
