Patriots Take On Richmond Spiders in A-10 Semifinals on CBS Sports Network

HENRICO, Va. - The #2 George Mason women's basketball team will take on the #3 Richmond Spiders on Saturday, March 7 in the Semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network with tip-off set for 1:30 p.m ET. Tommy Buckles and Simon Burts will be on the GoMason Digital Network starting at approximately 1:15 p.m. ET.

This is the 71st matchup between the Patriots and Spiders. The teams split the two matchups this season, eaching winning on their home court. Richmond leads the neutral site matchups, 6-2.

SCOUTING THE SPIDERS

Richmond enters the matchup with a 26-6 overall record and a 15-3 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Spiders average 73.5 points per game while allowing 59.0 points per game, resulting in a +14.5 scoring margin. Richmond shoots 46.2 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from three-point range, making 10.7 three-pointers per game on 917 attempts this season. The Spiders also shoot 80.1 percent from the free throw line and average 16.4 assists per game with a 1.18 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Individually, Maggie Doogan leads Richmond with 21.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51.2 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from three-point range, and 89.2 percent from the free throw line. Rachel Ullstrom adds 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three, with 90 three-pointers made this season. Ally Sweeney contributes 10.6 points and a team-high 141 assists, averaging 4.4 assists per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from beyond the arc. Alicia Newell averages 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and leads the team with 58 steals.

As a team, Richmond averages 35.4 rebounds per game with a +1.9 rebounding margin and records 7.6 steals and 2.8 blocks per game. The Spiders commit 13.9 turnovers per game while forcing 15.1 turnovers from opponents. Defensively, Richmond holds opponents to 38.5 percent shooting from the field and 28.4 percent from three-point range. Richmond also ranks among the national leaders in three-point shooting percentage (37.8%), three-pointers per game (10.9), and free throw percentage (80.1%).

  • The Patriots secured a piece of the 2026 Regular Season  Championship - the program's first regular season championship ever in any conference
  •  George Mason finish the 2025-26 regular season with the most conference wins in program history (16)
  • Zahirah Walton and Kennedy Harris were named to the All-Conference First Team. Only two other set of Patriots have been name to their conference's first team in the same season: Jen Surlas & Trish Halpin (1999) and Marcell Harrison & Nickie Hilton (1993). Walton is also the first Patriot to win back-to-back First Team honors since Surlas in '99 and '00.
  • Hawa Komara and Mary Amoateng were named to the All-Defensive Team. Amoateng joins Nicole Cardaño-Hillary as the only George Mason players to make the A-10 All-Defensive Team as freshmen. 
  • Amoateng was also named to the All-Rookie Team. She becomes just the 6th Patriot to be named to the All-Rookie Team in the program's A-10 era
  •  Junior Kennedy Harris eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark last Saturday vs. Duquesne. She joins teammate Zahirah Walton and 21 other Patriots in the program's 1K point club 
  • Head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis is the longest tenured Black female head coach in D1 (27 years)
  • Zahirah Walton was named to the 2026 Becky Hammon Player of the Year Midseason Watch List
  • Head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis won her 400th career game on January 4, 2026 vs. VCU, 68-58
  • The Patriots won the Atlantic 10 championship for the first time in program history in 2024-25, giving them their first NCAA Tournament berth
