FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team has earned a postseason berth in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) and will continue its season this week.
The Patriots were selected as the 3-seed and will face Quinnipiac on Thursday, March 19 at EagleBank Arena in the 32-team postseason event. Time is TBD.
George Mason enters their second-ever WBIT following another historic season under head coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis. The Patriots continued their rise among the top programs in the Atlantic 10 Conference, winning the regular season and reaching the conference championship game. This built on the momentum of last season's title run and first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament. The program has established multiple benchmarks during Blair-Lewis' tenure, including record-setting conference wins and back-to-back-to-back 20-win seasons.
The WBIT, launched in 2024 and operated by the NCAA, features a 32-team field of programs from across the country that narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament field. All regular season champions receive and automatic big, and the rest are given at-large bids as determined by a committee. The event provides an additional postseason opportunity for some of the nation's top teams outside the NCAA Tournament bracket.
Tickets will go on sale tomorrow, Monday, March 16 at noon. Additional details regarding television coverage will be announced when finalized.
