Patriots Tangle with Spiders Tuesday in Richmond

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team (21-3, 9-2) begins a two-game road swing Tuesday night with a contest at Richmond (13-11, 3-8).

Tip-off between the Patriots and Spiders is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday's game will be televised regionally on Monumental Sports Network and streamed nationally on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Bob Black, Scott Ungerer and Guerin Austin. In addition, Voice of the Patriots Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PATRIOT POINTS
• The Patriots are 21-3 for the first time in school history and started A-10 play 6-0 for the first time in program annals. GMU also is one of just 16 programs nationally to have 21+ wins.

• Since the start of the 2024-25 season, George Mason leads the A-10 and ranks t-11th nationally in total wins (48).

• George Mason is 26-5 (.839) in its last 31 A-10 games dating back to the 2023-24 campaign.

• The Patriots hold a three-game lead over fifth place in the A-10 as the Green & Gold strive for a coveted double bye in next month's Atlantic 10 Championship in Pittsburgh.

• Last time out, the Patriots held Saint Joseph's to 23 second half points and 29 percent shooting in a 60-52 win Saturday. GMU limited SJU to just one field goal over the final 6:23.

Jahari Long led GMU with a game-high 20 points to go with three assists and one turnover. He averaged 18.5 points in two games last week and in league play, he is second in the A-10 in A/TO ratio (2.9).

Riley Allenspach added 13 points (6-9 FG) and a team-high seven rebounds in the win. The Charlotte product ranks second in the A-10 and 40th nationally in field goal percentage (.585). 

• The Patriots are the fastest George Mason team ever to win 20 games (in 22 chances). The previous record of 25 games was set in 2024-25, 2010-11, 2005-06 and 1983-84.

• GMU is 4-1 in A-10 road games this season and a combined 10-4 in away conference contests over the last two seasons under Tony Skinn ('06).

• GMU ranks 36th nationally in field goal percentage (.484) and features a top-100 KenPom offense (1.135 points/possession) for the first time since 2010-11.

• The Patriots committed just eight turnovers in Saturday's win after averaging 15.3 over the previous three games. GMU averages 10.2 turnovers in wins and 14.0 in losses this season.

• GMU is the only program in the A-10 to have two players ranked in the top-10 in both assists/game and A/TO ratio (J. Long, K. Mincy).

• The Patriots enter Tuesday's game ranked 74th in the NET. GMU also is No. 79 in KenPom.

HISTORY vs. RICHMOND
Tuesday's game will mark the 75th all-time meeting between George Mason and Richmond in men's basketball (Mason trails 32-42). The Patriots are 19-13 vs. the Spiders in Fairfax and 10-22 in games played in Richmond (3-7 on neutral courts). George Mason has won seven of the past eight matchups. Last season, the Patriots swept the series, winning 64-58 in Fairfax on Jan. 8 and taking a 64-60 contest at the Robins Center on March 8. The win in Richmond secured a share of the Patriots first-ever A-10 regular season title.

A LOOK AT THE SPIDERS (13-11, 3-8 A-10; NET #150, KenPom #144)
Richmond was picked 10th out of 14 teams in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. The Spiders went 10-3 in non-conference play, highlighted by a 84-76 win at top-60 Belmont. Richmond is 3-8 in A-10 contests and has dropped six-straight games. The Spiders are shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the arc in league play, but are allowing 1.177 points/possession in conference contests (14th in A-10). AJ Lopez leads the team in scoring (12.7 ppg), shoots 42.6 percent from 3pt range and is sixth in the league in free throw percentage (.862). Aiden Argabright adds 10.5 points/game and a team-high 1.3 steals/contest.

George Mason wraps up its road trip with a Friday night contest at DMV rival George Washington. Tip-off in Foggy Bottom between the Patriots and Revolutionaries is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
