CHARLESTON S.C. – George Mason senior starter
Logan Rumberg tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win in the Patriots' 6-1 victory over Ball State in the Swin & Swine College Classic at Shipyard Park in Charleston, S.C.
THE LEADOFF
- Senior shortstop Owen Clyne went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and run scored.
- Junior first baseman Jake Butler was 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs.
- Freshman second baseman Julius Bagnerise finished 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.
George Mason (1-4) took the lead against Ball State (3-3) sophomore starter Brendan Garza in the top of the first. Clyne led off with a double to left and with two outs, Butler singled. Bagnerise drove in a pair of runs with his first collegiate triple to put the Patriots in front, 2-0.
The Patriots added to the lead in the fourth.
Bulter led off with a double down the third base line and Bagnerise singled and junior designated hitter
Toby Hueber walked to load the bases. Butler then scrambled home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
With two outs, senior right fielder
Drew Canody was hit by a pitch to put a Patriot on every base again. Clyne stepped in and ripped a two-run single through the left side to extend the lead to 4-0.
In the top of the eighth, the Patriots tacked on a run against Cardinals senior reliever Owen Quinn. Bulter went all the way to second on a throwing error and moved to third on a balk. Bagnerise drove in Butler with a sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 7-0.

Carter Kelsey took over on the mound in the sixth inning.
Ball State scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles and RBI groundout.
For the Patriots, Rumberg (1-1) scattered five hits over 6.0 innings with six strikeouts and just one walk to earn the win. Kelsey notched a three-inning save, his first as a Patriot, and struck out four batters.
For the Cardinals, Garza (1-1) allowed five earned runs on six hits in 4.0 innings and took the loss. Quinn gave up one unearned run in 5.0 innings in relief.
Clyne went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and scored a run. Butler finished 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs. Bagnerise went 3-for-3 with his first career triple, three RBI and scored a run.
The Patriots take on Seton Hall for the second time in three days to wrap up the Swig & Swine College Classic on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m. at Shipyard Park in Charleston, S.C.
