CHARLESTON, S.C. – The George Mason baseball team dropped its first game of the Swig & Swine Classic to Seton Hall, 8-6, on Friday afternoon at Shipyard Park in Charleston, S.C.
THE LEADOFF
Seton Hall (2-1) took the lead against George Mason (0-5) redshirt-junior starter
Owen Stewart in the top of the first with a bases-loaded walk to make it 1-0.
The Patriots got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Clyne led off with a walk and stole both second and third. With one out, Terilli drove in a run with a single to left field to tie the score, 1-1.
After two scoreless innings, the Pirates took the lead back with a leadoff double and a two-out RBI-single off graduate student
Brandon Hsu to make the score 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Clyne reached on an error to start the inning and junior first baseman
Jake Butler follwed with a double to left. Terillie plated his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly and Bagnerise drove in another with a single to left to put the Patriots ahead, 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, Seton Hall sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs on six hits to re-take the lead, 7-3.
Clyne hit a two-run home run and Bagnerise knocked in another in the bottom of the seventh to pull the Patriots within a run, 7-6., but that's as close as George Mason would get.
The Pirates added an insurance run in the ninth with back-to-back doubles for the 8-6 final.
The Patriots face Ball State on Saturday morning with the first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. at Shipyard Park in Charleston, S.C.
