LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Patriots capped off Day Two of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Saturday, February 14 with a pair of event victories and several improved marks across the board. With just two weeks remaining before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, George Mason track & field continued to trend upward at Liberty University's home meet, displaying momentum and depth at a crucial point in the indoor season.
Senior Aidan Walcott captured the men's 300m title in his event debut with a time of 34.44, etching his name seventh all-time on George Mason's indoor performance list.
Sarah Clark secured the second victory of the day for the Patriots, winning the women's mile open section with a personal-best time of 5:01.26.
Freshman Kymara Fernandez posted a personal-best mark of 11.94m in the triple jump upper section to place second overall. Conference leader Kailynn Tyson finished fourth with a mark of 11.87m.
Currently leading the Atlantic 10 with a season-best clearance of 5.30m, Walt Bannerman placed second in the men's pole vault invite section after clearing 5.17m. In the same event, Nick DeWolf rose to second in the A-10 season rankings following a strong showing of 4.87m. Freshman Trent Saben added a collegiate-best clearance of 4.51m in the men's pole vault open section.
Freshman Kellen LaRoche continued his impressive weekend with a fourth-place finish in the men's high jump invite section, clearing 2.01m.
The men's 4x400m relay "B" team of Anthony Gibson, Davian Burke, Caleb Hymans, and Messiah McKinley placed fourth in a field of 17 with a time of 3:16.53. Burke also placed fifth in the final of the men's 60m hurdles, clocking 8.16.
In the field events, Amela Male recorded a personal-best throw of 12.00m in the women's shot put, while Cameron Portis added a personal-best mark of 13.78m in the men's shot put.
George Mason returns home next weekend to host its final meet before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, competing in the Father Diamond Invitational at the George Mason Field House in Fairfax, Va., on Friday, February 20.
