WASHINGTON, D.C. – George Mason University women's volleyball middle blocker Mia Hazelett was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, following a dominant weekend at Davidson.
Hazelett helped lead the Patriots to a perfect 2-0 weekend, earning a pair of 3-1 victories over the Wildcats as George Mason improved to 4-0 in Atlantic 10 play and 12-4 overall.
The middle blocker was dominant at the net throughout the weekend, averaging 1.86 kills and 2.79 points per set while recording 13 blocks and five service aces across the two matches.
Hazelett opened the weekend with four kills, four blocks and a service ace on Friday. She followed with a career-high nine blocks on Saturday, tying for the third-most blocks in a single match in the nation on Saturday. She also added three kills and four aces in the performance.
The nine-block effort marked a new career high for Hazelett and capped a standout weekend in which she made an impact both offensively and defensively.
The weekly honor marks Hazelett's first Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week award.
George Mason returns to action on Wednesday at home vs. George Washington at 6 p.m.
