ST. LOUIS, MO. — George Mason (13-9, 5-5 Atlantic 10) lost to Saint Louis (11-10, 6-4 Atlantic 10) 3-2 on Friday, with set scores of 25-18, 21-25, 17-25, 25-20, 14-16. The Patriots hit .400 in the fourth set to force a fifth before falling 16-14 in the final set.

The Patriots opened the first set with five straight points on Kiera Hamilton's serve, including two aces and a Nia Thompson kill set by Ava Cheney, and carried that early separation into a 25-18 win. After Saint Louis scored four straight to make it 16-13, the Green & Gold kept control with kills from Hamilton and Meredith Brown before Thompson finished the set with consecutive kills from Cheney.

The Patriots answered a 19-11 deficit with six straight points, starting with Kiera Hamilton's kill and continuing through five service points from Mia Hazelett, to close within 19-17. Brown had two kills during the stretch, but Saint Louis held off the push and took the set 25-21.

The Green & Gold stayed with Saint Louis through a 9-9 tie on Meredith Brown's kill, but Saint Louis followed with three straight points and kept the set from tightening again. Thompson, Kiera Hamilton and Brown each added late offense for the Patriots, but Saint Louis closed out the third set, 25-17.

The Patriots turned the fourth set with a seven-point run, erasing an 11-9 deficit and moving in front 16-11 behind Avery Booker's serve. Hamilton had four kills during that stretch, then added the final kill as the Green & Gold finished the set 25-20.

The Patriots answered an early 2-1 deficit by moving in front 6-3, with kills from Hamilton and Thompson helping create the advantage. Saint Louis later went ahead 14-12, but the Green & Gold tied the set at 14 on a service error and a block by Cheney and Jenna Hunt. Saint Louis scored the final two points, and the Patriots dropped the fifth set, 16-14.
