Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

FAIRFAX, Va.
— George Mason (9-4-3, 5-2-1) defeated Rhode Island (7-5-4, 5-2-1) 1-0 on Thursday night at George Mason Stadium. Prior to the match, Rhode Island ranked second in the Atlantic 10 standings, while George Mason ranked fourth. Mia Casciani scored at 81:24 to break a scoreless match and account for the lone goal. The Patriots finished with four shots and three shots on goal, while Libby Davy made three saves to complete the shutout.

Rhode Island created the first sustained pressure of the half, recording early shots from Lauren MacDonald and Nicolasa Jacobs and earning a corner before the Green & Gold won its first corner at 7:17. The match grew more physical over the next stretch, and Libby Davy kept the match scoreless by saving Jacobs' shot at 11:05 as Rhode Island added two more corners and several attempts around a Patriots shot from Casciani at 17:57. After a quieter middle portion, fouls on both teams and a Rhode Island corner at 39:08 preceded a late Basie Shannon shot that went high, and the half ended 0-0.

Rhode Island pushed first after halftime, with Kaia Rice taking two shots and Lauren MacDonald adding three more around a 48:23 corner before Davy stopped MacDonald's attempt at 53:05. The Patriots generated chances later in the half, including a Molly Starner shot saved at 60:37 and a Keira Jeffries shot saved at 63:05. Casciani drew the foul for her penalty kick and broke the scoreless match at 81:24, converting to put the Patriots ahead 1-0. It was Casciani's first converted penalty kick of her career. Davy saved another MacDonald shot at 83:52, and after a late stretch that included several fouls and a Courtney Poon shot wide, the Green & Gold closed out the 1-0 win.

Casciani scored and was credited with the game-winning goal, putting one of her two shots on frame. Davy played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves and finished with a shutout.

Up next, the Patriots host La Salle on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia for the team's final home regular season game.
