FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots men's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match of the season to Stony Brook, 2-0, on Sunday night at George Mason Stadium.
George Mason (2-6-3, 1-2-1 A10) and Stoney Brook (6-1-5, 2-1-2 CAA) played a scoreless first half in rainy conditions.
In the 63rd minute, Patriots sophomore goalkeeper
Angel Hernandez made a save on a shot from 12 yards out to keep the match scoreless.
Later in the 63rd minute, the Patriots committed a foul in the penalty area. On the ensuing penalty kick, Stony Brook senior forward Finlay Oliver converted with a shot into the upper left corner for his first goal of the season to put the Seawolves in front, 1-0.
The Patriots were inches away from netting the equalizer in the 73rd minute. Sophomore midfielder
John Balkey blistered a shot from 20 yards out that hit the left post.
Stony Brook doubled the lead in the 74th minute when graduate student forward Olsen Aluc split a pair of defenders and raced in one-on-one against Hernandez and scored his fourth goal of the season into the lower right corner to make it 2-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Patriots outshot the Seawolves, 15-11, while Stony Brook had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Stony Brook had five corner kicks and George Mason earned four corner kicks in the match.
